Why propose a referendum now - why not wait a few years? This is one of the most common questions we have received about the referendum on June 10. The primary reason is that our maintenance budget has struggled under the weight of needed repairs for several years now and can no longer address our most critically needed repairs, let alone investments in our spaces that could improve the learning environments for students. The longer these needs go unaddressed, the more likely it is that more money will need to be diverted from teaching and curriculum to pay for building upkeep. It is also within our best interest to complete updates as early as we responsibly can due rising construction costs and current uncertainty around the economy. 🐾🌿 2nd Grade Adventure! 🌿🐾 On Tuesday, our 2nd graders ventured to White Horse Hill National Game Preserve! 🚌✨ They explored lush forests, rolling prairies, and sparkling wetlands—all teeming with wildlife like bison, elk, prairie dogs, and a variety of birds. 🦬🦌🐦 Formerly known as Sullys Hill, this preserve was renamed in 2019 to honor the Dakota heritage of the Spirit Lake Tribe. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all who donated to make this enriching experience possible! 💖🌍

Today, our students had the opportunity to visit our high school for an interactive assembly with Hope Inc., a remarkable nonprofit based in Fargo, dedicated to empowering individuals with mobility challenges through adaptive sports and recreational activities. 🏀♿️🧑🏻‍🎓 During the assembly, students engaged in hands-on activities, like wheelchair soccer and basketball, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges faced by those with physical disabilities. This experience not only fostered empathy and understanding, but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity and teamwork. 👫🏅 A huge, thank you to Hope Inc. for bringing this inspiring and educational experience to our students. 💙

If voters approve the referendum on June 10, the investments in our school buildings will be supported by a tax increase on property in our district. Tax impacts will depend on the true and full value of your property. You can easily calculate your projected tax impact with the tax calculator found at https://SoaringForwardTogether.com/tax-impact -- just enter the true and full value of your property as it appears on your most recent tax statement to see your annual impact. We're committed to ensuring all residents of our district have the information they need to make an informed vote on Election Day. If you have questions about the referendum, don't hesitate to reach out to us at https://SoaringForwardTogether.com/connect/

One of the most common challenges brought up by staff and community members during the creation of the referendum plan was having only one room at Langdon Area Elementary for breakfast, lunch, physical education, performances and events. So many combined uses makes scheduling activities extremely difficult to manage, and the space must be constantly transitioned back and forth between dining, physcial education, and events several times a day. When inclement weather requires indoor recess, it is also the only area capable of accommodating students. In addition to addressing the most urgently needed maintenance at both of our buildings, the referendum on June 10 asks to build a gymnasium for our youngest students to solve these problems and ensure they have dedicated space for activity, dining, and school events. Visit https://soaringforwardtogether.com/ to learn more about the proposed plan!
